One more decade down

So with one more decade completed, the memories floated back to a decade previously and a decade before that. 1999/2000 was of course Y2K night of wondering what was ahead of us all in the days ahead, and living up to ones reputation as the 13th Duke of Wybourne. 2009/2010 was in Jozi, down the local casino, keeping plates spinning, while again acting as the duke but in a slightly self-destructive manner but happily enjoying teenage kicks as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Now middle age, being Mr Responsible, Mr Dependable, Mr Family man, things have become a lot more "normal" and the transition passed without even a murmur.

One of the abiding memories of that last decade was wandering into a random pub in Woodmead of a Friday night and seeing this crowd play unannounced. Almost as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

Rapidly increasing age and the passing of the seasons can be a miserable cunt of a thing

Here's to the next 10 years judge.

One more go on the merry-go-around

Had forgotten all about this place. Looks like it hasn't been touched in like 6 or 7 years. I'm thinking I should resuscitate it for my idle amusement. Not that I have the time for it, in fact I've less free time now than I've ever had before. But.. if nothing else I can use it as a storage medium of what I was doing or what I was listening to at the time. Because my memory of olden times I thought I'd never forget has been mostly forgotten. And thats only going to get worse as time moves on.

Sunday night music

From back when Tom Dunne wasn't an annoying bollix on the radio trying to appeal to frustrated housewives, or people working on production lines bored off their trolley

Spambots

Really the level of spambottery going on has reached new levels. I've actually had to login and delete all the rubbish. Which made me think I should use this for some purposes which it probably wasnt hugely intended for. But anyway.... so to follow on from the Violet Femmes....

Blister in the sun

Was reading this article in the Irish Times today on Freakscene in Cork. Don't remember offhand ever being there, but looking at their top ten at the end of the article reminded me of this song, which I haven't heard in years, and brought back some great memories.

Halcyon days.....

Lowbrow

Fado, fado (ie a long long time ago), when I was a mere slip of a lad, happily drinking myself stupid and wasting a lot of time and effort on things very unimportant, I chanced upon Lowbrow one Friday afternoon, and instantly got hooked. I passed this goldmine of nonsense onto like minded souls. I didn't just recommend it to people, I exposed its brilliance in a long winded rant. Despite this, I don't think anyone ever loved it anywhere near as much as I did.

Then when it needed funds to continue to pay for its server hosting, I put up some money towards it, not much but I was a student at the time, so I still get loadsa karma points. Despite this, eventually it died. Back then it was a .com site of course.

Then a couple of years later, I remembered it one idle day and found it had been saved to some extent as  a .org title. It was never the same though. The design was horrible. It looked like vomit. It just wasn't the same.

Now a couple of years later, I re-remembered it one late friday evening when I'm mentally tired beyond belief. Who knows why. So I remember the .org, and typed it in with bated breath to see if it still existed. It did. Then to read the history page and see it has been offline for years and only restored to life within the last month. Hurrah.

This feels like a mini-version of fate. The design while not as good as the original is more than acceptable.  I may waste valuable hours on this.

So be it.
